The Zawinul Legacy Band: Keeping the Music Alive
Created by Tony Zawinul to honor Joe Zawinul’s groundbreaking work as a composer and performer, the Zawinul Legacy Band celebrates the music of Weather Report and the Zawinul Syndicate in electrifying performances around the globe.
The Zawinul Legacy Band transcends the definition of a traditional “tribute” band as the incredible musicians who form its core have firsthand experience performing and recording with Joe Zawinul and Weather Report; this gives them invaluable insight into the creativity and energy behind Zawinul’s music.
The Zawinul Legacy Band is supported in social media by over 220,000 Facebook fans across the Joe Zawinul, Weather Report and Legacy Band pages.
Scott Kinsey (Keyboards)
Kinsey has been one of Zawinul’s most successful students from the unofficial “Zawinul School of Keyboards” and has collaborated with the Zawinul Syndicate on several projects as keyboard programmer. Later in his career, Kinsey went on to play with jazz-fusion band, Tribal Tech, and contributed to motion picture soundtracks, most notably those of Ocean’s Eleven (2001) and Ocean’s Twelve (2004).
Hadrien Feraud (Bass)
Feraud– though the youngest member of the group– is known for his talent as a bass player throughout the world. At 29 years old, Feraud has already played with many renowned musicians such as Chick Corea, Jada Pinkett Smith and John McLaughlin.
Katisse Buckingham (Saxophone)
Buckingham has performed and/or recorded with an array of artists: Airto & Flora Purim, Amos Lee, Andy Summers, Billy Childs, Brian Auger, Colin Hay of Men at Work, Dave Douglas, Dr. Dre, Herbie Hancock, Lennie White, Lionel Richie, Pete Yorn, Prince, Poncho Sanchez, Ricky Lawson, Roy Ayres, Simon Phillips, Vanessa Paradis and the Yellowjackets. He has also played for numerous films including the “jazz flute” scene in the Will Ferrell film, Anchorman (2004).
The Zawinul Legacy Band is the only music group officially designated and endorsed by the Zawinul Estate.
